Kids and Teens Pelvic Pain Clinical Network

About

  • Pelvic pain is real and it feels different for everyone.

    It can include:

    • period pain
    • vaginal and vulval pain
    • heavy bleeding

We believe that this shouldn't stop you from doing the things you enjoy.

You're not alone and there is help available.

The Kids and Teens Pelvic Pain Clinical Network provides a statewide paediatric service for children and young people under 18 experiencing pelvic pain. Supported by the Victorian Government, the network provides:

    • easy to understand information
    • practical tips and advice in plain language
    • support to help young people and families navigate health services.

These resources are for young people, parents, coaches, teachers, community leaders and other healthcare professionals.

The resources have also been shaped by young people, including those who experience pelvic pain and a team of multidisciplinary experts, including:

    • occupational therapists
    • physiotherapists
    • dietitians
    • doctors (GPs)
    • nurses
    • psychologists
    • paediatric adolescent gynaecologist (PAG).
Note: this information is general and does not replace advice from your doctor or healthcare team.

    How does it work?

    • Anyone can access our online resources.
    • If you'd like more tailored information, you can fill out this form to let us know.
    • Based on the information you share, our navigation nurse will provide a summary of relevant resources and services, as well as offer you a 30-minute virtual consultation.
    • During the consultation, the nurse will consider whether you're eligible for support from pelvic pain specialists across the state.
    • This will depend on:
      • where you live
      • your current health team (you must have a regular GP)
      • other support and services you've already accessed.
    • If eligible and appropriate for your needs, you will receive a referral to a specialist service.
    • After three months, you'll have a follow-up virtual consultation with the navigation nurse.

The RCH Gynaecology department will continue to see patients with complex conditions.

Note: this is not an urgent care service and we cannot prescribe medications.
